SERMON LINKS: Audio (MP3)   |   Powerpoint (PPS)   |   Outline (PDF)

What a way to start a new series! We opened our new Colossians study by revealing why you can stop being a victim - Christ created the powers, Christ defeated the powers, and Christ reconciled the powers. Praise God!

So... what next?

Here are a few suggestions for your next steps - from classes to further reading to online materials and more.

For Further Thought:

  • Read our key passage again - Colossians 1:10-23. The "firstborn" has the rights of an heir. What rights does Jesus have (vv 15-18)? What is his relationship to "all things"?
  • What is his relationship to God and the church? What does "fullness" imply?
  • How would you define "reconciliation" in ordinary terms? How was this achieved by Jesus?
  • What before and after story do you see in verses 21-23?
  • From this passage, what would you say to someone who asked you, "How can I get to know God?"
  • At times, what people (or forces) seem to be more powerful than Jesus? Why? How do you respond to the fact that even these things are under Christ's authority?

For Prayer:
Holy Father, by the body and blood of Jesus: You qualified me to share in the kingdom of light; You rescued me from the dominion of darkness; you brought me into the kingdom of Lord Jesus; and You redeemed me forever. In Christ, all is forgiven. Thank You.
Lord Jesus, You created the powers - I will not serve them. You defeated the powers - I will not fear them. You reconciled the powers - I, too, am reconciled through Your cross. Thank You for removing the distance between us. Amen.

Colossians: We're currently studying the book of Colossians. Let's read the book each week. It's a short read, but packed with wisdom your heart needs to hear:

For Further Reading (and Listening):

The Cross of Christ The Cross of Christ, by John R.W. Stott. Can we see triumph in tragedy, victory in shame? Why should an object of Roman distaste and Jewish disgust be the emblem of our worship and the axiom of our faith? And what does it mean for us today?

Victory Over Darkness, by Neil T. Anderson

    Be Complete, by Warren Wiersbe

New Life Worship I Am Free, by New Life Worship. Contains the original recording of "I Am Free."
